An Error Analysis on the Use of Simple Past Tense in Students’ Recount Text Writing

This research was conducted based on the phenomenon happened in school. The students had low ability grammar. They got difficulty constructing sentences by using some tenses. Therefore, this thesis discussed error analysis simple past tense writing recount text. purpose of to classify types errors made and find out sources which descriptive qualitative analysis. subjects were at first semester SMA Mardi Yuana Depok Class X Social III consisted 20 students, it considered purposive sampling technique. In collecting data, used task identify students‟ action verb text linguistic category taxonomy according Brown’s theory. result showed that there 4 students. highest two common Misinformation 30 or 37,5% Omission 24 %. lowest Addition 14 items 17,5% Mis-ordering with 12 15%.
